Salon Kiklo: Website and Logo Design to Uplift a Growing Salon
Share
Summary & Brief:
Client:
New Canaan, CT
Our Scope:
Graphic design and website design.
Objective:

To redesign Salon Kiklo's website to produce an easy to access and navigate website experience for their customer base. The salon was growing, had recently moved, and wanted to provide a better digital experience for their customers. The website was also to be designed in a software that was easy to transfer ownership of, make updates to, and provide full flexibility for future use. Salon Kiklo was our first client in 2017.
Further, the overall site design was to focus on: their team, services and costs in an easy to read categorical layout, how to find the salon, and an easy to locate contact form. The primary goal of the site was to be informational and also lead users to call in to the front desk so they can book appointments with the stylist that looked most appealing to them on the site, with the price/work they wanted done. Hence, the focus on: one being able to view the stylist, and two the price points - leading to a contact form.
The legacy website was also not mobile friendly, and the new site requirement was to be optimized for mobile devices.
The request was also to develop touchups to their logo, not only making it simpler, but removing the anniversary date, and making a logo that was responsive. There old logo on file was a base low resolution JPG file, therefore it was difficult to resize, and apply to other applications. We were to not only redesign the logo, but also construct it in a file format that would allow for future use and flexibly.
Solution:

Designed a fully responsive website that housed all content on one dynamic page instead of multiple, with anchor links to help users navigate to content of interest. We originally built a section featuring all team members, with their photos, and about information along with their specialty so prospects were able to choose which hair stylist was best for their needs. This has since been migrated to a short explainer of the team, to make it easier to manage. We connected their site into google maps so users could easily locate it on mobile or desktop and get directions as needed. This was presented near the contact form and information to consolidate and organize for convenience. A contact form was also built which connected directly to the store owner's inbox. Additionally, we deigned and built a section on the site displaying all cost information for each hair treatment offered at Salon Kiklo this also included graphic elements so users can easily identify the hair treatment with text and visuals. This has also since been consolidated to a simpler cost overview which allows for easier editing.
Our graphic design team completely redesigned their logo from scratch. We developed a new file format for them by redesigning the Salon Kiklo logo in Adobe Illustrator, being a Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file. This not only allowed for ease of edits in the future, flexible design, but also the ability to have a more responsive logo to place on the web, print, or any other applications. In turn we removed all anniversary information on the logo and touched up various graphical elements. Today, the logo has since been simplified from the original to help the logo standout in a more bold and memorable format.

Intuitive User Experience (UX)
Simple speaks volumes with the amount of noise on the web today. Working hand in hand with the Salon Kiklo team, we were extremely prescriptive in getting to understand what their customers were looking for, what they wanted to convey, and what their business focused on delivering. From this, we made a huge shift away from complex site navigation to a simplified anchor led navigation where users could quickly understand: what they need, the price, and who they wanted to see. From this linear user journey - ending with a contact section. This was an extremely natural website design that started at top of funnel actions, leading all the way to bottom of funnel contact.
Responsive Mobile Friendly Website Design
Previous website was not built for mobile devices. Most of the Kiklo customers would be using their cellphones to find, or research, more information about the Salon before they chose to go, come in, or call quickly from the mobile device. Integrating the website with a mobile first design, and simplifying the UX (user experience) completely minimized issues previous customers were having in using the website to not only learn more, but contact the team on the fly before they got in to their salon for an appointment.
Logo Design
Redesigning the logo was a must for Salon Kiklo to be able to evolve. We traced pixel by pixel a new SVG logo in Adobe Illustrator from the old JPG file and even made some design tweaks on the way to improve the overall design. We then removed the date, and increased the size of the brand name to stand out more in the logo itself. Once the logo was designed, Salon Kiklo was able to use it for a multitude of applications. This allowed for an easier redesign from the original a few years ago.
We designed an additional banner for Salon Kiklo to utilize for their 6 year anniversary.
